MBBS and BDS Admission Procedure

Common Admission Procedure of Medical Entrance Exams:

Every year for admission to the Undergraduate Programmes - MBBS/ BDS offered at the various Medical colleges for all Indian and foreign nationals were made through the Entrance Examination. From 2013 and onwards NEET will be held for admission to the undergraduate programmes in Medical. Admission to all the medical colleges in India shall be through a single entrance test called as NEET-National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Few of the medical colleges will be select their candidates through respective university or college level entrance test of their particular college.

Entrance exams for Medical Colleges in India are held in the months of April / May / June. These entrance exams are based on class XI and XII syllabus of the central board or the state board. However, there are some entrance exams which are based on class XII syllabus of their respective state boards.

Most of the entrance exams are one-stage exams with objective type question paper. Few exams are with two stages, where in first stage certain number of students are short listed then they put through an another exam for final selection. Exams like BHU and AFMC etc. are conducted two stages exams.

Admission to AFMC-Pune:

In most admission test, the written exam is the only means of admission. However, there are some colleges like the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune which conducts a personal interview at Delhi and Pune AFMC camp, before granting a seat to an already qualified candidate in its written exam. In case of BHU-PMT, there are also two stages of test first is Screening and then Main.

Admission to AFMC, Pune shall be subject to the norms prescribed by the Directorate of Armed Force Medical Service, Ministry of Defence Government of India in addition to the NEET-UG Rank.

Reservation Policy:

Reservation of Seats in Medical Colleges under 15% All India Quotas:

  1. 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates.
  2. 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates.
  3. 27% seats are reserved for non-creamy layer OBC candidates.
  4. 3% seats are reserved for PH candidates.

Reservation of Seats in Medical Colleges under State Quotas and private Colleges:

  1. Admission under 85% state quota seats in Govt. medical colleges shall be subject to reservation policy and eligibility criteria prevailing in the State/Union Territory as notified by the respective State/UT from time to time.
  2. Note: Reservation will be made as per 2200 point reservation roster. The mode of implementation of reservation will be available on DGHS website: www.mohfw.nic.in.
